Master Bobby Lawrence

Bobby Lawrence is unique among karate masters. He began his karate training in 1970, at the age of 16 in Las Vegas Nevada. After graduating high school he attended college in San Bernardino. There he was privileged to study karate under Master Richard Callahan. After five years of study, a BA in History with a minor in teaching Physical Education, and a California Fifth Year Teaching Certificate, Master Lawrence, moved to Utah for graduate studies in History.

To gain some real life experience Master Lawrence taught school in Tooele County school district. He also coached football, basketball, and track. After two years he returned to BYU to study law. After graduation and passing the Utah State Bar, Master Lawrence sought business experience which he obtained while working for a couple of large corporations in Utah County. Between 1988 and 1993, Master Lawrence served as the Martial Arts Director in the PE department at BYU.

While working in the corporate world Master Lawrence's wife turned his hobby into a business and found it to be extremely valuable in raising her family in the business. All three of their sons operate Bobby Lawrence Karate schools in Utah and have become State, National, and even World Champions. His daughter works for the Bobby Lawrence Karate Corporate Offices.

Able to retire at a fairly young age in 2007, Master Lawrence decided to devote the rest of his life to teaching karate. Since that time he and his wife moved the Bobby Lawrence Karate headquarters to Spanish Fork. Once a month they host in-service training for owners and branch managers from other BLK schools around the state.

Master Lawrence has studied and become adept at several martial arts, including Shotokan Karate, Kenpo Karate, American Sport Karate, Kwon Shu Karate, Arnis, Dan Zan Ryu Ju Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Folk Style Wrestling. Master Lawrence deftly blended these styles into a family friendly, enlightened system we now know as Bobby Lawrence Karate.
